“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.”
So true. I have seen many people fall out, never to speak to each other again whilst travelling. I have also seen life-strong bonds made on journeys.
The Quote Source
This quote is found in the novel “Tom Sawyer Abroad” by Mark Twain. The story is about three men Tom, Huck and Jim that journey to Africa in a hot air balloon. There they have many adventures, surviving lions and more, and see some of the wonders of the world, such as the pyramids. It is part of the Tom Sawyer series and is a sequel to the title book of the series.
What This Travel Quote Means To Me
I have seen this quote in action! It certainly is true. When you travel, or backpack, with someone or a few others you are constantly with them. You get very little person space or time, so it’s natural that you’ll have some disagreements. But travel really can ‘make or break’ a friendship. You’ll see each other for who you really are and you may not like it. Sharing dorms, food, bags and pretty much everything. You’ll soon realise if you actually like them or not.
Whether you plan from the start to travel with someone, or find friendship on your journey, if you travel for an extended period with the person you will soon find out what that friendship really means! It’s not all negative though, you can develop some very strong bonds with people you travel with.
Being in close quarters is hard for friendship. You’ll learn all their annoying habits and they’ll discover yours. Travelling really can define a friendship, for better or worse!
