“But If You’re All About The Destination, Then Take A F#”king Flight”.
What is this quote? Where does it come from? And what does it mean? Why do I class this as a travel quote? All the below is my personal opinions and feelings of this quote. But please feel free to comment below and let me know what you think!
The Quote Source
The quote comes from a song by Frank Turner. Frank Turner is an English singer-songwriter from Hampshire. His music is mainly in the folk genre. He is a solo artist but is accompanied by a backing band, The Sleeping Souls, when performing.
The Song is called “The Ballad Of Me And My Friends”. It is the final song on the 2007 album “Sleep Is For The Week”, which was also his first solo album. This debut album was released by Xtra Mile Recordings.
Why I See This As A Travel Quote And What It Means To Me
To me the quote “But if you’re all about the destination, then take a f#”king flight.” basically means that it is the journey, not the destination that is important (which can be interpreted as in regards to travel or life). Flights get you to your destination without seeing anything, without having chance to deviate from the path beneath your feet. There are no choices.
For me, travel is about the slow overland and over sea journeys. I like to see the scenery that I travel through. Every country has so much to offer when travelling through it, whether it be beautiful landscapes or a quirky place to eat. It’s worth taking the time to enjoy the journey to get to your destination, rather than rushing there and missing what is on the road.
Although, I do understand that sometimes flights must be taken. Where time is a limitation, sometimes you have to just get to the destination. Sometimes it can’t be helped. But, in my opinion, flights should be avoided whenever possible.
Obviously, this is my personal feelings on the quote out of context of the entire song. But even in the context of the song I feel that it is saying the same about life. Live it, take your time and enjoy the journey
Thank You, Frank Turner
I’d like to say “Thank You” to Frank Turner, for this quote. The quote that has inspired me to avoid flights where possible! Even when only on a week away, I make sure that time is spent journeying through the country I am visiting, so that I see and enjoy more than just the destination!
