Urban Adventures

Urban Adventures is part of the Intrepid Group. These tours can be for a few hours or a full day. There are a few different varieties of tours to choose from, in 93 countries and 157 cities. There are tours in New Zealand, USA, Brazil, Thailand and Denmark, to name just a few. And more are being added! With small group sizes (a maximum of 12) you really can get off the beaten path, see the hidden gems and meet the locals.

Types Of Tours

Tours can focus on different things, such as food or active. Some overlap, so you’re sure to find something that suits you! There are a few different types to choose from and even a new type called ‘In Focus’. Here’s a little bit about the tour styles of Urban Adventure:

In-Focus

The newest tour style to be added by Urban Adventure. These focus on real-life issues and work in conjunction with charities. These tours show projects to travellers and how they are giving back to the local community. These tours are not about giving money to charity though, they are about helping tourist to understand local issues and supporting start-ups in a way that means they should have longevity. Examples of In-Focus Tours include:

Bagan Community Experience – Visit an underdeveloped village outside of Bagan and how locals are working with ActionAid Myanmar.

Beyond The Beach – Experience a quieter part of Maldives life and join Save The Beach to learn about the conservation work in this area.

Tastes Of Chinatown – Support local enterprises and hear stories of migration as you sample the tastes of Sydney’s Chinatown.

Beer

Make new friends and sample local craft beers in new cities around the world. Here are just a few examples of Beer Tours:

Totally Philly – Explore Philly’s great neighbourhoods whilst sampling the food and beer! See the rich art, history and culture, sampling local craft beer and visiting Jewish delis and Italian markets.

Bohemian Slovenia – Explore more than 2,000 years of history whilst sampling the best local brews. Also listen to street musicians and admire local art.

The Art Of Craft Beer In San Jose – Be part of the beer revolution in Costa Rica! Sample the local brews and hear the locals stories and reasons why they love beer!

Food

Active

Mayan Underwater Explorer – Explore ancient underground rivers and caves under Playa del Carmen. On the way you will learn about the Mayan culture and about their underworld.

Beijing By Bike – Zigzag through alleyways and hutongs in Beijing. Learn secret streets and shortcuts to experience local life.

Drink

Your glass won’t be empty on a drink tour. Visit vineyards, distilleries, cocktail bars and more to get a taste of the local tipple. Some examples of drink tours are:

Bohemian Sunset – Discover the Bohemian side of Crete whilst sampling wines, food and strong spirits. You’ll also see a secret spot to watch the sunset that only the locals know about!

Soho Legends And Pub Tour – Enjoy English beers and ales in an English pub. Also learn about Soho and the stories about celebrities that have been here.

Private

  • Take care of the local environment. Ask for advice and always keep conservation and sustainability in mind.
  • Respect local culture, even if there are some customs you don’t agree with.
  • Make an effort to support the local economy, use local shops and transport.
